How Does a Painter Reach Extreme Heights?
When Will a Professional Painter Need a Scaffold?
A painter’s scaffolding is used while painting areas which would usually be out of reach, like high walls or tall objects. As with other kinds of scaffolding, this structure is a sturdy support for the painter to stand upon while they work. Different kinds of scaffolding can be used all depending upon what the requirements of the job call for, for instance, the height of an area that has to be painted and whether the job is indoors or outdoors. Scaffolding can be hired, purchased, or built using raw materials.
The structure of a scaffolding basically consists of a surface which is supported by a cage like framework comprising of horizontal and vertical metallic tubes or planks of lumber. The vertical struts could sit upon base plates or wheels on the floor, thus creating a raised platform. Or, the whole structure could be suspended by bracing from the top or side of a structure using very little direct support on the ground. A painter’s scaffolding could also hang by cables, these are hooked to a higher section of a building or even onto a crane.
The main advantage a scaffolding offers to a painter when compared to standard ladders is it permits the painter to get to areas by walking across a scaffolding surface, while ladders only allow a narrow reach and no movement whatsoever. Scaffolds can be useful for areas which ladders just cannot reach. At times where an area must be painted, for instance, the side of a tall structure, the scaffolding could be hung or suspended on the wall with the aid of support beams.
Various painter’s scaffolding types are available for different uses. For smaller projects which do not need great height, like painting the inside of a house, portable structures can be used. Some firms offer smaller hanging scaffolding, which can be used for home improvement jobs. Bigger construction jobs need structures which can offer access to higher areas, while supporting several workers. These kinds sometimes incorporate a more elaborate bracing and rigging system, and more durable struts.
